A contract killer wanted for carrying out assassinations in three European countries has been extradited from the Czech Republic to Hungary to face charges.
Czech Justice Minister, Marie Benesova, decided to extradite Csaba Dér to Budapest over Belgrade, where he is also wanted, because of the seriousness of the charges he faces in the Hungarian capital.
Csaba Dér, who has Hungaraian and Serbian citizenship, was arrested by Czech police on March 1 at Amadeus Hotel in Prague. According to the announcement at the time, he was found in possession of false documents, two pistols and ammunition. Serbian press reports he had been intercepted just before carrying out his next contract killing, suspected of being ordered by one Serb politician against another.
An international arrest warrant was issued by the Dutch, Hungarian and Serbian police against the 38-year-old man suspected of having committed at least three murders.
Dér agreed to be released to Hungary, where he is believed to have family
In a statement, Eurojust, the EU’s Judicial Cooperation Unit, said that it actively supported the investigations between the Hungarian, Dutch and Serbian judicial authorities into this multiple murder case.
Eurojust also facilitated the cooperation between the national authorities by advising on a possible transfer of proceedings and by providing its expert guidance to avoid potential conflicts of jurisdiction.
