Detectives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine detained an employee of one of the inter-departmental departments of the Security Service of Ukraine in Kyiv for receiving a bribe of nearly $50, 000, according to the press service of NABU.
“The officer of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) received from intermediaries $47,500 for not failing to prosecute people who obtained a certificate for permanent or temporary residence in the territory of Ukraine in an illegal way,” stated the NABU.
According to the investigation, the official possessed information that showed the receipt of a number of residence permits for foreigners living in Ukraine obtained by means of fictitious marriages to Ukrainian citizens.
According to the report, an “object of improper benefit”, documents, riot guns, as well as substance, thought to be a narcotic were seized during the search of car by an officer of the SBU. Law enforcement officers noted that “in order to document the possible illegal activities of an organised group” NABU detectives conducted searches at the place of work of the detainee, in the premises of persons likely to be involved in the crime, as well as in the Dnipro police department in Kyiv.
NABU said that “all necessary investigative actions are being carried out to establish the circle of the involved persons and to find out all the circumstances of the crime.”
