A 26-year-old Russian man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his fiancé to death shortly before their wedding.
The suspect and the groom, Alexander Voronin, had been missing for already three weeks. He was seen leaving the flat he shared with his bride “silent and reticent” soon after her death, according to a report by 7News.
Voronin, who owned a car rental company and a travel agency was caught at a park in Moscow.
He was slapped with murder charges while a Moscow court ordered him to be held in detention for two months.
Meanwhile, the body of 26-year-old Marina Pankratova was found half-naked in bed with multiple stab wounds.
According to evidence heard by a Moscow court, Pankratova’s face was disfigured, her torso and limbs were covered in wounds, while her skull was fractured by a small axe. Her body was found by Voronin’s mother.
A pistol was also found at the scene.
During the trial, Voronin claimed that he did not remember anything from the scene.
His lawyer sought for bail but was rejected at a custody hearing after opposition from prosecutors and a representative of the dead woman.
“It is enough to look at the photos and be horrified with the cruelty of Voronin towards his victim,” the representative was quoted as saying. “He does not even repent.”
Relatives had said that the couple were dating long time after meeting at a store where they both worked.
Friends were quoted as saying that the couple had a “very tender” and “loving” relationship.
“They were a nice couple. very calm and quiet,” said one neighbour.
A female neighbour said: “I’m shocked. They were a nice and intelligent couple.”
But a friend said that the victim had recently complained about domestic violence to the police, but later withdrew the claim and agreed to marry Voronin.
