Nothing stopped the thieves in Switzerland from braving the dangerous climb just to get the money from a donation box…for heist’s sake!
Defying the Odds for Heist’s Sake
The route to the donation box is classified as level 5 or the most difficult. However, it seems too easy for the bandits to deal with the climbing and scaling mounting ladders. The structures were secured into the vertical precipice and crossed towering gorges on narrow steel cables.
These pillagers not only succeeded in getting a grip on one of Switzerland’s most arduous protected climbing routes. Likewise, they robbed a cash collection that funds the maintenance of the route. It seems they have the tools that allowed them to break the donation box open with strength.
The incident shocked the local climbing group because only experts can undertake an altitude of 2,350 metres. They preserve the country’s protected climbing route known as Via Ferrata. This is located on the Gemmi pass above Leukerbad village while the group receive no salary.
Via Ferrata is a sequence of ladders, steps, and rock climbing that takes a climber up a wall. He or she wears a harness, clipped into a sturdy wire at the beginning of the Via Ferrata.
How Much Was Stolen?
The thieves stole around 500 Swiss Francs. The local climbing group who maintain the area said the robbers are brazen and have no respect.
It looks like the criminals planned the heist well. Moreover, it appears that they continued their climb (with the money) to the top of the Dauberhorn, at 2941 metres.
The local climbing group said that it would be hard to locate the crooks considering the past few days as an ideal climbing weather. Besides, they welcomed a huge number of mountaineers at Via Ferrata.
Since then the group has received some 500 Swiss Francs from a local benefactor as a replacement for the stolen cash.
